  • I bought the magazine at a Barnes and Noble. It's has some interesting ideas in it, however I can't help but think that some of the example garments they use could be....ummm.....better.

I have hopes that, because this is a new magazine, they are working with a limited pool of talent. *Maybe* (fingers crossed) with time, more and more people will make submissions. I'm willing to give it a chance.
    • Hey JoAnn's isn't so bad. The one in Emeryville is terrific. I like the emeryville JoAnn's a LOT better than Discount Fabrics.

I too, agree that the examples could be better, as it is, it kind of reminds me of craft fair stuff. But like you said, it's a new magazine. And, of course when you do a how-to format, you are somewhat limited. I do like that reconstructed clothing is becoming more and more mainstream since its a fun and eco friendly hobby, and no matter how many people do it, everything they make will still be unique.
      • I go to JoAnn's a lot - frankly, they're useful for base fabrics and patterns and such though I tend to go up to JoMar's in Philly more often.

Thanks for the mag link though... new reading is always good.
  • But god is it expensive! I bought the Dec (?) mag and asked for a subscription for xmas and my mom pointed out how many issues you get (4 for $60!!!). And many of the projects did seem awfully amature. Hopefully further issues will have more unique pieces and techniques.
    • having held an issue of this magazine in my hand and seen that the publishers are from conservative/suburban orange county area, I do not expect there to be much innovation for the typical tribe creative...

this is mainly "cut up your tshirts" and "add ribbons to your jeans to make pedal pushers" type of "altered" ideas....

i would take a guess that most of us in this tribe are on the cutting edge if not bleeding edge in altered couture, so probably don' t have much to learn or much new to see in magazines... the lag time and production costs are just too high for a magazine publisher that they tend to be more general or middle of the road... to sell more ad space and appeal to a wider audience...

so, the ideas in this magazine might be interesting in any suburb (including LA suburbs), nothing ground breaking for tribe.net members, nor this tribe in particular.

i might be wrong... or maybe we all need to submit some of our creations to get this magazine shaking a bit!
